More tales of 3D printing

3D printed model of rat liver vault (PDB entry 4V60)

Back when life was (relatively) normal, I spent a morning at the DTC guiding the students through our annual 3D printing practical! Some interesting proteins were chosen this year, including some very large complexes – after fighting with such large files for a few hours I bet the students wished they had been less ambitious, but I think it was worth it!

The models shown in the image above are the following proteins (left to right, top to bottom):

  • tobacco mosaic virus (PDB entry 6R7M)
  • chaperonin complex GroEL (1AON)
  • antibody (1IGT)
  • DNA polymerase (6NKR)
  • mechanosensitive channel Piezo1 (6B3R)
  • toll-like receptor 3 ectodomain complexed with double-stranded RNA (3CIY)
  • ebola glycoprotein in complex with a broadly neutralizing human antibody (6MAM)
